We’re based in Harrogate and sell properties throughout Yorkshire, Cumbria and the surrounding areas – though we’re also very happy to sell in other parts of the UK for existing or recommended clients.
Dales & Shires is a small, independent estate agency with a large geographical coverage. Although we cover a very large area, we offer a very personal and dedicated service to each individual client.
We handle urban and rural properties – from towns and cities to villages, hamlets and coastal areas – and have particular experience with period properties, lifestyle homes, character residences and homes with large gardens or land.

Our Coverage Areas
Yorkshire is our core area – all of it, from the Dales and the Moors to the cities and the East Coast.
Cumbria and the Lake District – we sell here regularly, including the western Dales around Sedbergh and Kirkby Stephen.
The surrounding counties – County Durham and Teesdale, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire – particularly for rural and character properties.
The rest of the UK – we’re happy to sell anywhere for existing or previous clients, and for new clients who have been recommended to us.
Yorkshire
Yorkshire is our core area. Over the years, we have helped many hundreds of clients sell their properties here.
We cover all parts of Yorkshire – North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and East Yorkshire (the East Riding). The region includes the eternally popular Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and East Coast, as well as thriving towns and cities such as York, Leeds, Sheffield and Harrogate.
The county is full of amazing period properties. Many buyers move within the region, and we also successfully sell to buyers relocating from London and the South East.
Cumbria & the Lake District
We regularly sell in Cumbria. The county includes the western parts of the Yorkshire Dales, including Sedbergh and Kirkby Stephen.
We cover all of the Lake District, as well as the towns and villages of South and Central Lakeland – including Kendal, Penrith and Ulverston.
County Durham & Teesdale
We have had many successful sales for clients in County Durham and Teesdale, including Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale.
The area boasts beautiful, and often under-rated, countryside, villages and amenities – and our large coverage area has often introduced buyers to it who otherwise would not have discovered it.
Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire
Over the years, we have been involved in many successful sales in these counties – particularly for rural and character properties, where the right ‘lifestyle’ buyers may be looking over vast areas for their perfect home.
We can help with property sales from the Yorkshire Dales to the Lake District, Peak District, East Coast, and everywhere in between.
The Rest of the UK
We are reasonably regularly asked to handle sales in London, the Home Counties, the South East and South West, the Midlands, Wales and Scotland.
We don’t actively promote our services in these areas, but we will happily (and very effectively) sell there for existing or previous clients, or new clients who have been recommended to us – and we have often stepped in successfully when a local agent has been unable to produce a sale.
With almost all buyers now starting their search online, the selling agent doesn’t have to be based in the local town to achieve the best sale. Our experience, wider perspective and objective analysis of the local market make for very effective marketing and advice.
